Kathryn graduated from Steelville High School, received her BS in Elementary Education from Harris Teacher's College, Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Southern Illinois University and her PhD in Education Administration from St. Louis University. She began teaching in a one room rural school in Crawford County, she taught first grade for 12 years and was respected member of the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she served as a remedial teacher, language arts coordinator, elementary school principal and Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education. When she became assistant superintendent of Ferguson-Florissant in 1975, she was one of only a few women in the state to reach that level in education administration. She retired in 1987.
Kathryn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Steelville where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible study classes, sang in the choir and together with Bob directed the Senior Adult Saints Alive group. She directed the Community Development activities for Steelville and she and Bob were chosen as Steelville's Citizen of the Year in 1991. Kathryn was very proud of her rich heritage and was very active in the genealogical societies of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and the 17th Century Colonial Dames. She had the honor of being chosen to carry the flag of the United States down Constitution Avenue in the Washington D.C. Fourth of July parade.
She will be remembered for her love of children, music and animals, her sense of humor, her tremendous will and determination and her indefatigable devotion to her husband, family and friends.
