Crash Kills Portlander

Captain Dale Lasselle Overseas Plane Victim

Captain Dale Lasselle of Portland, with the United States Army Air Force somewhere in England, was killed in a plane crash October 3.

Bare notification of his death has come from Army authorities to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Lasselle, 4757 N. E. Wasco Street.

Commissioned at Randolph Field, Texas, about three years ago, Captain Lasselle was well known in Portland as a football star, first at Grant High School, and later at the University of Oregon, where he finished his grid career in 1938.

He enlisted soon afterward, training for his wings at both Randolph and Kelly Fields. After receiving his commission, he was stationed at McDill Field, Tampa, Fla. While there he was married to Jane Lea of Tampa.

No particulars of the ill-fated flight were received in the terse Army notification.

Besides his parents and wife, he is survived by four brothers -- Major Percy A. Laselle of Los Angeles, with the chemical warfare division of the United States Army; Elton Lasselle, Portland; Captain Herbert W. Lasselle with the Army transport division, in Portland, and Courtney D. Lasselle of Portland; a sister, Mrs. A. P. Olson of Berkeley, Cal., and a grandmother, Mrs. Augusta Lasselle of Portland.
