MONDAY, JUNE 4, 1900
Herman G. Whiting, an old resident of Clyde, died Saturday morning from a stroke of paralysis, received several months ago. Mr. Whiting, who was 65 years of age, had resided in Clyde with the exception of several years spent in the South. During the Civil War he was a prominent officer in the Confederate army, and since his return to Clyde he had been employed as a jeweler. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Herman G., Jr., of Hartford City, Indiana, and Thomas J., of Clyde, and one daughter, Mrs. Irene Logan, wife of F. W. Logan, of Hoboken, N. J.
Herman G. Whiting, husband of Martha Ellen "Mattie" Osmond Whiting was a jeweler. He moved to Savannah during the Civil War and served in the Confederacy as a musician. Herman and Martha had 4 children: Irene, Herman Jr., Gertrude, and Thomas.
