Nettie Hazel Mattingly, 82, of Leonardtown, MD, died on November 21, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 20, 1920 in Compton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Milton (middle name was Matthew) and Frances Pillsbury Hazel. Mrs. Mattingly was a member of St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church in Leonardtown and an active member in the Alter Guild. She volunteered at the St. Mary's County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Her husband Francis Jerome Mattingly whom she married on June 29, 1941 at St. Frances Catholic Church survives her. Also surviving is a son, Jeffrey Lawrence Mattingly and wife Debra of Owings, MD, four sisters, Elsie Tilton of Hartford, CT, Eva Alvey of Leonardtown, MD, Mary Cusic and Idelia Teenie Cusic both of Compton, MD, two grandchildren, Christopher and Sean Mattingly and three great-grandchildren, Madison Sibley, Caitlyn Mattingly and Samuel Mattingly also survive. In addition to her parents four brothers, Raymond, Elmer, John and Bob Hazel, preceded her in death. Friends were received on Sunday November 24, 2002 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD where a prayer service was recited. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 25, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church, with the Reverend John Mattingly as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, St. Mary's Co. Chapter, P.O. Box 387, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
