US Congressman. Born in Nashville, Tennesse, he moved to New Design, Kentucky, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives (1827-32) and in 1835, was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress, serving until 1837. In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1855. He was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 1859, but was too ill to take his office and died at age 59.
