William J. "Bill" Powell, Jr., 74, of Sterling, died on August 22, 1999 in Sterling.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday August 25, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Yuma. Rev. Randy Valdez of Grand Junction will be officiating. Inurnment will be at the Yuma Cemetery.
Mr. Powell was born on May 21, 1925, to William Powell Sr. and Marie [Jorgensen] Powell in Haxtun.
He married Waunetta Turnbull on October 8, 1945 in St. Francis, Kansas. They lived in Yuma, where he drove truck, worked for the city, and was active in the sheriff's posse. Later he moved to Sterling and worked for Lindsay Hay Grinding.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his many friends and his riding lawn mower. His strong faith in his Lord was important to him.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Waunetta of Sterling; four children, Perry Powell and wife Peg of Pueblo, Anita Puentes of Sterling, Diana Norris and husband Keith of Stockbridge, Georgia, Pamela Chilcott and husband Ed of Fort Collins; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Powell of Yuma, Glen Powell and wife Marlene of Hamburg, Iowa, and Howard Powell and wife Dorothy of Sun City, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Stacy Lynn; one granddaughter, Stacy Waunetta; and one grandson, Glenn Rutan.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Wing of Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
