Gerald was born May 15, 1930, to Arnold and Helen (Springmeier) Lage in Durant, Iowa.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Air Force. Gerald served four years in the United States Navy. He then entered the United States Air Force where he was a Nuclear Weapons Technician. He retired after 20 years of service in 1973. He then worked for Walcott Mutual Insurance as an adjustor until retirement.
Gerald was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton, Iowa, and the Durant American Legion Post #430. As a young man, Gerald raced motorcycles and enjoyed traveling the United States on his motorcyle. He enjoyed making jewelry, doing leather work and collecting guns and knives. He loved his dogs, Toot and Bailey, and rarely missed his nephews' activities.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton.
Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton.
Interment will take place at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, where Military Rites will be conducted by the Durant American Legion Post #430.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother, Kenneth, and his wife, Joyce Lage of Wilton, Iowa, his niece, Jill, and her husband, Robert Cawiezell, of Muscatine, Iowa, and his nephew, Kent Lage, and his wife, Tami Nason, of Charlestown, Mass., his great-nephews, Tony, and his wife, Shawna Behal, of Durant, and Noah Cawiezell of Muscatine, and his great-great nephew, Carter Behal.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
