Rosanna Hanks was a remarkable woman. By diligent study she had acquired an extensive knowledge of medicine and for many years was the only physician within twenty miles. Her success in treating diseases of women and children was wonderful. She was also the 'tayloress' for the community; she did the cutting of garments for the community, cut and made the fine Camlet cloaks worn by men at that time. She was the first person buried in the McKendree Church yard. Her husband lies by her side.
