Ed was born April 4, 1924, in Oakland, Calif. He worked for Pan American Airways from 1942 until retirement in 1981. He was frozen on the job with Pan Am during the WWII years and was part of the Naval Reserve at that time. After the war it was undecided whether those frozen employees should have to serve regular time in the service and they were on 24 hour call. He tired of waiting the decision and enlisted in the Army for two years. It was then decided they should not have to serve additionally. Ed was already in. After his two years in the Army he went back to Pan Am where he worked until retirement in 1981.
Ed is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Schlipf. They have been married 61 1/2 years. He is also survived by his three children, Cathy Leichliter and husband Larry of Westlake Village, Calif., Steve Schlipf and wife Liz of Fairmont, Vt., Beverly McCafferty and husband Kevin of Shelter Island, N.Y. and our grandson Daniel McCafferty of Shelter Island, N.Y. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Florence Schlipf; a sister, Cecelia McElroy and her husband, George McElroy.
Ed was a family man. Always a help to his family and neighbors. A very hard worker until his health began to fail him and he took early retirement because of arthritic problems. He became a victim of prostate cancer that returned and metastasized to the bone. Hospice of San Angelo has been a real blessing to us and we deeply appreciate them and thank them for all their help and encouragement. Our thanks also to Dr. Peter Chang and Dr. John Coughlin for their care over the years. Pallbearers will be Roger Ford, Burt Terrill, Hugh Campbell, G.H. Lampley, Johnny Coats and Bud Miller.
