Died at her home on South Juliana street, Bedford, on Monday. She had been in failing health for a long time and was a patient in the Timmins hospital for three months where she underwent the amputation of one leg due to diabetes and gangrene. A month ago she was taken to her home where she was able to be about on crutches and it was while walking about last Friday that her crutch caught and she fell, from the effects of which she failed to rally. She was the daughter of Fred and Catherine Gardner Hafer and was united in marriage with Jacob Wertz, who preceded her in death. She was aged 53 years. Surviving are these children: Mrs. Catherine Rose, Mrs. Clara Beltz, Mrs. Genevieve Lashley, Mrs. Bernadette Carbaugh and Frank and Jacob Wertz, all of Bedford, and these brothers and sisters: David and Daniel Hafer of Bedford, R. D. No. 3, Harry Hafer of Hagerstown, Md., Fred and Jesse Hafer of Bedford, Mrs. Howard Baine of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. John Stickler of Imlertown and Mrs. Charles Pensyl of Bedford. She was a member of the Catholic church in Bedford, where funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev. F. A. Magee.
