EAST LIVERPOOL - Billy L. Morris, 73, of Haywood Street, East Liverpool, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at East Liverpool City Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Powhatan, Va., on Dec. 12, 1937, and was a son of the late Zacharias Morris and Helen E. (Nicholas) Morris Curlee. Living most of his life in this area he worked as a Kiln Fireman at Ferro Porcelain before his retirement in 2004. Mr. Morris was past president of the local AFL/CIO and Local Trade & Labor Council No. 274. He was an avid bowler, bowling in several leagues, played golf and played church league softball. His passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His wife: Grace E. (Joy) Morris, whom he married on March 31, 1956, survives him at home. Also surviving is his son: Billy J. Morris and his wife Wendy of East Liverpool; his daughter: Helen L Davis and her husband Jody also of East Liverpool; one brother: James Morris of Richmond, Va.; three sisters: Frances Harvie and her husband Walter of Mechanicsville, Va., Dot Tomlin of Hopewell, Va., and Rhea Ziesmer of Midlothian, Va.; two grandchildren: Jesse L. Davis and his wife Laura of Hopewell, Pa., and Zachary T. Davis and his wife Amanda of Columbiana; three great-grandchildren: Damien and Donovan Davis of Hopewell, Pa., and Jackson T. Davis of Columbiana; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather: Ray E. Curlee; a great-grandson: Derek Davis; and a sister: Jean Morris.
A celebration of Billy's life will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mike Ross of the Hope Christian Fellowship officiating.
Burial will follow in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell.
