William G. (Jerry) McDougall, 86, of Grand Ave., died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, New York.

He was born January 22, 1917, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the son of John Alexander McDougall and Ellen Healy. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1924, and arrived in Niagara Falls in 1937. He was employed by Stauffer Chemical Company for 37 years. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, the former Catherine Mary Sykes, who passed away February 16, 2003. They were married on August 3, 1940, at St. John de LaSalle Church.

He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Niagara Falls First Friday Club, for many years.

He played 2nd base and shortstop for the Double I League, winning championships in the 40's and 50's. He played fast pitch softball for Stauffer at 3rd base over many years, until retiring at 53 years old. He played for the Niagara All Stars Baseball team in the Can-Am league at Hyde Park Stadium. When playing in Cleveland, in 1934, he batted .536 and won the Class C batting championship. While on the high school track team, he won the 100 yd dash, with a record setting time of 10.5 sec. One of his teammates on this same track team was Olympian, Jesse Owens. Jerry bowled for over 50 years, and well into his 80's carried an average of 180, with a high game of 278 coming within the past year.

He was inducted into the Niagara Falls Oldtimer's Hall of Fame in October of 2002.

Surviving are his children, Joseph (Judith) McDougall of Seattle, WA, John A. McDougall of Cheektowaga, NY, daughter Patricia (Jeffrey) Mott of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Robert McDougall, Jennifer McDougall Watt, Angela McDougall, Jessica McDougall, Mark DePierro, Gina McDougall; two great-grandchildren, Stone and Jaiden, 3 sisters-in-law, Mary McDougall of Ohio, and Alice Bartha and Rose Principe of this city. One sister, Margaret and one brother, James Joseph, of Ohio, predeceased him.
