He was born in Harrisonburg on June 4, 1938, and was a son of the late Charles August Maitland Sr. and Myrtle Baker Maitland.
Charles lived his entire life in the Rockingham County area, and attended Rockingham County Schools. He was formerly employed at several area dairy farms, and Harrisonburg Auto Auction.
He is survived by a brother, James Maitland and wife, Debbie, of Harrisonburg; a sister, Martha Heatwole and husband, Roland, of Mount Crawford; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, with Pastor Jimmy Kite officiating.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Ray of Hope Pentecostal Church in Harrisonburg, with Pastor Jimmy Kite and the Rev. William Albright officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in his memory.
