Anna Jean Bennett Douglas was born in western New York to William Bennett and Catherine Young. When her mother remarried to Edward Baldwin, she lived in Belmont, New York with them in 1860. After the family moved back to Sterling and Newton, Massachusetts, she married William W. Douglas, a successful Providence attorney, in 1884. They were not young when they married, and they never had any children. "Aunt Jenny" was a loving and supportive aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was active in St. Stephen's Church, and the Girl Scouts, and she and her husband traveled extensively. She and her husband lived for many years in the Douglas family home on Prospect Street, Providence, and towards the end of her life, she resided at the Minden on the East Side.
