US Navy Rear Admiral. During World War II Lt. Commander Hottel was the Commanding Officer of the Submarine USS Cuttlefish SS-171 as part of Task Force 7 from December 7, 1941 to June of 1942. He next commanded the Submarine Grouper from April 12, 1943 through November 12, 1943.
