"Charles Ethan Allen Sr. died Tuesday evening in the Salem nursing home following a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the McClellan funeral home in Salem by the Rev. J. Duke King. Burial was in Hebron cemetery with George Andrews, Wilson Durham, Frank Nelson, John Rykowski, John Smith and Myron Slater acting as bearers. Mr. Allen was born April 3, 1887, in Hebron, the son of the late John J. and Anna Belle Johnson Allen. He was a retired farmer. For several years he had suffered with asthma. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a corporal in France and was a member of the Salem American Legion post No. 812. Survivors include his wife, Florence Brown Allen, two sons, Charles E. Allen Jr. of Salem and George E. Allen of Granville; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hanlon of Oneonta, two grandchildren, Charles Ethan Allen III and Cynthia Darlene Allen; one brother, Fred J.
