James was the son of William "Billy" Grayson and Rebecca Reese. He was married to Julia A Williams and Sarah Jane Jones.
We are indeed sorry to hear of the death of Co. J. W. M. Grayson, which occurred at his home at Jones, Ashe County, a few days ago. Col. Grayson was for many years a prominent lawyer in East Tennessee, and accumulated considerable property. He was said to have been a man of much native ability.
