Areva Huish Roosevelt Areva Lindsay Huish, age 92, was born in Heber City, on September 7, 1918 to Andrew and Martha Sulser Lindsay. She passed away on July 29, 2011 at the Roosevelt Villa.
Two weeks ago she was playing bridge and winning, she would add. She then spent this week preparing to return home.
She graduated from Wasatch High School in 1936. Areva loved school and was the editor of the high school paper and business manager of the yearbook during her senior year. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class. Areva left Heber to attend BYU in the fall of 1936. After graduating in 1939 she moved to Roosevelt, that fall, to teach school at the Roosevelt Elementary.
She married Robert D. Huish on December 26, 1940 in SLC. After her marriage she joined her husband and his parents, Dave and Edith Huish in the operation of the Huish Drug Store.
Areva loved working and meeting people of all ages at the drugstore. She and Bob had a great love of the Indian people. She worked at the drug store until she and Bob retired in 1973.
After retirement they traveled to much of the world. Among favorite places were the Great Wall of China, Japan and Thailand, Central and South America, Machu Picchu was especially enjoyed. Areva loved the fact that she celebrated her 65 birthday at the Eiffel Tower; then later kissed the Blarney stone in Scotland. She loved traveling, but was always happy to get home to Roosevelt.
Areva was a member of the BPW, Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce, and served on various Roosevelt City Boards. She and Bob received the Outstanding Healthcare Achievement Award. She was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the UBIC parade in August 2010.
Bob and Areva established a scholarship for Duchesne County students and members of the Ute Tribe pursuing teaching in the field of history at the USU campus in Roosevelt and the Nursing Program at the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College. Some of those nurses cared for Areva in her final hours. They were also financial supporters of the Senior Crossroads Center, as well as giving financial and emotional support to hundreds of individuals over the years. Areva was a member of the Golf Course Committee.
After retiring, Areva and Bob spent many hours weeding and working at the course, along with providing financial help. Areva stated, "we weren't the best golfers, but no one loved and enjoyed the course more than we did." Areva enjoyed the recognition of having a road around the Golf course named "Areva Road."
Areva was interested in her home, inside and out. Many beautiful flowers were to be found in her yard. The "Huish House" was the headquarters for the many friends who had left Roosevelt, but enjoyed coming "home." She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She was planning to host a bridge party the week she fell ill. She loved any game that challenged her brain. Reading and current events were very important.
Bob and Areva spent many winters in St. George. They owned a condo with friends, Gordon and Cam Harmston. They belonged to the Bloomington Country Club and enjoyed golf and bridge with their friends there.
Areva was preceded in death by her parents; losing her mother when she was 12. Her brothers, Willard and Bert Lindsay, sisters, Millie Murdock, Anna Gross and Martha Agle. Bob passed away March 16, 2006.
Areva was lonely but appreciated the 66 years spent together. She was appreciative of the life she has had and looked forward to joining Bob again.
