MR. ROBERT BAYLESS PASSES AWAY MONDAY

Robert R. Bayless, one of the oldest and best known citizens of this city and section, passed away at his home on Hamilton street Monday evening at eight o’clock. Mr. Bayless had been in failing health for some time, hence his death was not unexpected. Mr. Bayless was born October 5, 1843, in Carter county, Tennessee, near Milligan college. He spent his entire life in Carter and Washington counties where he was well and favorably known. He entered the Confederate army when he was seventeen years of age. He united with the Cherokee Baptist church when eighteen years of age and for a period of 35 years was a deacon in the church. He was a good citizen in every respect, a Christian gentleman and had scores of friends.
Mr. Bayless is survived by a widow, Mrs. Adelaide Galloway Bayless and four children, Mrs. H. A. Bell of Piloa Point, Texas, Mrs. Frank McNeese, and Mr. John H. and Edwin R. Bayless of this city, and Mrs. Charles R. Bayless, of Embreville.
