Robert "Robbie" "Big Bird" Dean, age 55, born March 3, 1953, died Thursday July 3, 2008 at his residence with his family and loved ones by his side after a battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father Louis Owen Dean, brothers Denny and Donald Dean. Robbie is survived by his son, Robbie (Erin) Dean; grandchildren, Addison and Brayden Dean; siblings, Bonnie Hinderer, Eddie (Evelyn) Dean, Larry (Rose) Dean. He was a 1971 graduate of Franklin Heights High School. He was a 12 time champion at Columbus Motor Speedway. He won the most popular driver award at Columbus Motor Speedway as well as many other awards and races. He drove for many years with the number 94, but recently switched to number 77. Robbie started racing in 1971 in Columbus. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 6, 2008 from 2-8 p.m, at the SCHOEDINGER-NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City , where funeral service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Scott Bumgardner officiating. Interment will be at Grove City Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Cancer Society in Robbie's name.
