Actor. He is best remembered for his role as 'Colonel Robert E. Hogan' in the CBS television sitcom World War II series "Hogan's Heroes" that aired from September 1965 until July 1971. He was murdered under mysterious circumstances in 1978. Crane's best friend John Henry Carpenter was arrested and tried for his murder in 1994, but acquitted. To date, Crane's murder remains unsolved.
