Nathan {Age 65} is recorded on the
1910 census at Portland, Cumberland, Maine.

Nathan died in his residence on Park Street in his 67th year.
He was educated in the Portland schools, being one of 'Master Staples boys'.
At the age of 17, he was apprenticed as a machinist and learned the trade, remaining
in that business also as a timekeeper and bookkeeper for nearly eighteen years, after which he was in the office of a brush manufactory for over nine years, retiring in 1890 on account of ill health.
All his tastes, however, were for books and historical research.
On Maine Colonial and Revolutionary History

He was a charter member of the Maine Society of Sons of Revolution.
He was elected to membership in the Maine Historical Society in 1892 and became its librarian.
He was also member of other historical societies and organizations.
Of special pride to Mr. Goold was the Wadsworth Longfellow House and much of its value as an historical landmark was due to his fostering care.
He had an immense fund of history and genealogy in his head, which he never committed to paper, and which is now irretrievably lost.
He left no children. His will left an estate of $20,000.00; he gave the Historical Society a portrait of himself, his scrapbook, and other historical articles.
His funeral was on 2 March 1914 from the Library of the Maine Historical Society and interment was in the Goold tomb at Windham Center.
