Dorothy Hooper, or Dot, as she was often called by her friends and loved ones, went to be with the Lord Monday evening at 8:05 PM, October 9, 2023, eight days before her 91st birthday.
Dot was born in Nacogdoches County October 17, 1932. She lived in Texas all her life, with the
exception of about 3 or 4 years In Logansport, Louisiana., which is right on the Texas/Louisiana
border. Though she lived most of her life in Joaquin, Shelby County, Dot did live for a number of years (1960s) near Houston in Webster, Texas, managing a major hotel near NASA space center. While there, she was able to meet presidents and astronauts. Dot also lived a number of years in Gary, Tx, Panola county.
Dorothy became known by many people as the go to person for genealogical information on the Richard Hooper family from the Republic of Texas years.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family (including her parents and six siblings).
Dorothy's viewing and funeral service were held at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Her internment was in Sholar Cemetery near her parents, John Preston and Mary Elizabeth Hooper, and two brothers Travis and Marlin Hooper. Sholar Cemetery is near Joaquin, Shelby County. The viewing was held Thursday evening (October 12) from 5-7 pm. The funeral service was held the next day in Watson and Sons chapel at 10 am.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: John Preston Hooper and Mary Elizabeth 'McKinney' Hooper; her siblings: Travis Hooper, Tuel Hooper, Raymond Hooper, Royce (Dugan) Hooper, Maurine 'Hooper' Spurlock, and Marlin Hooper.
Survivors included:
Niece and Nephews -Martha "Hooper" Burch of Kenefick, Texas, Duane Hooper of Houston, Texas, Gerald Hooper of Deer Park, Texas, Tommy Spurlock of joaquin, Texas, Donald Hooper of Shreveport, Louisiana, Charles Hooper of Louisiana, and Kenneth Hooper (state unknown). Dot was survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
