DAVID HAROLD VANDIVORT went home to be with the Lord April 26, 2003. Born October 10, 1921 in Dallas to Ammie & Edna Vandivort, he was a life-long Dallas resident. He graduated from North Dallas H.S. in 1939.

On December 8, 1941, he joined the Army Air Force and flew 81 combat missions in North Africa, Sicily & Italy. In 1943 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for superb airmanship, outstanding courage, and selfless devotion to duty in saving the life of a fellow fighter pilot at risk of his own life. He further received in 1943 a Presidential Unit Citation, ETO Ribbon, 3 Battle Stars, the Air Medal and 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He left active duty in January 1947 with the rank of Captain. He remained an active Air Force reservist through the 1950s leaving with the rank of Major.

He joined the U.S. Postal Service upon leaving the Air Force and served as a carrier and clerk for the next 43 years. He helped organize the Dallas Area Local of the American Postal Workers Union and served as Hospital Plan Representative and Chief Steward for 20 years.

He was a founding member of Northwest Bible Church, one of the great loves of his life. For the last 10 years, he has been a member of Lake Highlands Baptist Church. His selfless living out of his life Motto Duty, Honor, Country leaves a lasting example for those who knew him. He served the Lord, his country, his family and his fellowman with unyielding faithfulness.

Preceded in death by brother, William B. Survived by son & daughter-in-law, Lance & Nancy Vandivort; son, Terry Vandivort; son & daughter-in-law: Randy & Toni Vandivort; Grandchildren: Dana Perkins (husband Jeremy), Eric Vandivort, Kyle & Katie Vandivort and 2 great granddaughters, brother, Albert Vandivort (wife Louise) and many nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Mark Farish, Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 10:00 a.m., Lake Highlands Baptist Church, 642 Brookhurst, Dallas.

Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday April 29, 2003 at the Funeral Home.
