1910 U.S. Census for Portland, Multnomah Co., OR finds Amanda E. Carl and her son Ira Carl. Amanda is 65 yrs old & a widow. Ira W. is 24 yrs old and b. in Oregon. Amanda's parents were b. in Maryland.

1920 U.S. Census for Portland, Multnomah Co., OR finds Amanda E. Carl and her granddaughter, Wilma Lett, who is 29 yrs old, single, and b. in OR. Her father was b. in MO and her mother in Iowa. Amanda is 75 yrs.


CARL - Nov 29, at the late residence, 1218 Kerby st., Amanda Elizabeth Carl, aged 78 years 1 month. Nine children are left to mourn: M. M. Carl, Mrs. W. A. Moomaw and Mrs. C. E. Carl, all of California; Mrs. W. A. Lett of Bridge, Or.,; H. L. Carl of Hubbard, Or.; J.D. Carl of Arago, Or,; W N. Carl of Ashland, Or., and George C. and Ira W. Carl, both of this city.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec 1, 2 P.M., at Church of the Brethern, corner of Borthwick and Brainard sts. Interment Rose City cemetery."

AMANDA E. CARL, a pioneer of this city died yesterday at her home at 1218 Kerby St. She was born in Mount Morris in 1844, and in 1881 following her marriage to August Carl, a Civil War veteran, moved to Coos Co., Oregon. There they lived until 1901, then moving to Newberg, then after a few years, to Portland. She had been a continuous resident of this city since 1907.

Her husband died at Newberg in 1903.

Mrs. Carl is survived by nine children: Rev. George C. Carl, Portland; M.M. Carl, Santa Ana, Cal.; Mrs. W.A. Moomaw, Huntington Beach, Cal; Mrs. W.A. Lett, Bridge, Or; H.L. Carl, Hubbard, Or; C.E. Carl, Los Angeles, Cal; J.D. Carl, Argo, Or; W.N. Carl, Ashland, Or; and Ira W. Carl, Portland.

She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Among the former are Mrs. Marshall N. Dana, W.G. Carl, and Wilbur M. Carl, all of Portland.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow or Saturday at the Brethen Church, Borthwick and Brainard streets, of which the deceased had been a member for 50 years. Burial will be at the Rose City Cemetery.
