George Keith Madsen, 83, of Rigby, Idaho died July 12, 2005. He was born April 1, 1922 in Rigby to Loyal Mathew Madsen and Eileen Leonora Ellsworth Madsen. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby where he actively participated in sports. Before graduating from High School, he was called into active service as a member of the Idaho National Guard and served during World War II for five years. He also served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He later attended the University of Utah and Ricks College. He married Leda Mae Wood in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 5, 1946. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of the LDS church and served in many callings, including Bishop and Stake President. He and his wife served as missionaries in the Michigan, Dearborn Mission in 1986 and also as temple officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was very active in community affairs, serving in the Red Cross, Rigby Lion's Club, on the Rigby City Council, and as Mayor of Rigby for 8 years. He was employed by Utah Power and Light Co. for 38 years in which his career gave him opportunities to help many people. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, golfing and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Leda; children, Bryon Keith (Sidney) Madsen of Mesa, Arizona, Lamar W. (Lynette) Madsen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karen (Myron) Williams of Rigby, Idaho, Colleen (Darcy) Stewart of St. George, Utah and Dalan Keith (LaRetta) Madsen of Rigby, Idaho. 21 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Three brothers, Robert Ellsworth Madsen of Rigby, Kenneth Reed (Punk) Madsen of Idaho Falls, Peter "J" Madsen of Idaho Falls, and one sister, Margaret Eileen Hodges of Teton. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Loyal Dean and Darwin Daniel (Lillie) Madsen and one sister, Edith Kathleen (Val) Jardine. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the 1st, 4th and 9th Ward LDS Church (401 W. 1st South, Rigby), with Bishop Earl Bishop officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main, Rigby) and for one hour before services on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the church. Military rites will be performed by the Jefferson County Veterans Team. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
