William R.Waller was the sheriff of Montgomery county from 1903 to 1906 and from 1915 to 1917.. He was born in that county March 17, 1852, the son of Charles R. and Emily Norman Waller natives of Montgomery county, Alabama.

William R. Waller received a limited education, mostly at home, studying under his father. He was brought up on the farm, living there until appointed deputy sheriff under W. D. Westcott. Four years later, he was elected to the office of sheriff in August, 1892, and held the office four years. In 1896, William was elected to the State legislature and served one term, and in 1900 was re-elected to the sheriff’s office.

William took an active interest in politics and was a popular and efficient officer. He was a member of Ancient Order United Workmen. He married to Mary Irene Norman by whom he had one child, Elizabeth. Elizabeth became the wife of James H. Milligan.

William married 2nd Carrie Waugh, and by her had three children. They were members of the Baptist and Episcopal churches. William Riley Waller passed away June 21, 1928 in Ramer, Montgomery, Alabama. He was seventy-six. He is buried in the Waller Cemetery in Ramer, Montgomery County, Alabama along with his 2nd wife Carrie Waugh Waller.
