Ella Stewart Douglas, as a young woman. She was born in Whitewright, Texas and moved to Arizona in 1888 with her new husband, Angus Douglas. (Her father, Isaac, died at the Battle of Dove Creek).

Ella was the mother of Ernest, Clyde, Ola and Louraine Douglas and two boys who died young: Ross and Wayne.

Ella was rugged frontier woman who helped run a small ranch, walked the desert to Baja, Calif. to sell mining equipment, and worked hard in her daily life. Toward the end, she settled happily in Phoenix and be came the first president of an Arizona pioneer association.

Family write-up about the Douglas moved from Brushy Creek, Texas, to the Buckeye/Gila Bend area of Arizona. Ella and her husband, Angus, came out with Angus' parents, Warren and Rebecca (Evans) Douglas, and with Angus' siblings: Irwin, Robert, Mary Sue, Laura; and family friends.

This write-up notes that Warren Douglas volunteered for the North during the Civil War. It was the opposite -- he and some siblings volunteered for the South.

Story in the Phoenix Gazette about Ella Stewart Douglas and her first airplane ride back to Texas (she had living brothers there).

Ella and her new husband, Angus, came to Az by wagon train. Ella did take part of the trip by train, as she was pregnant with Ernest -- whom she delivered soon after arriving in the Buckeye/Gila Bend area of Az. Ernest was born in a tent on the Gila River in 1888.
