Born in Florence County, South Carolina on October 17, 1898, he was the son of the late Louis Mowry Pettigrew and the late Anna C. Blackwell Pettigrew.
Mr. Pettigrew was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife, the former Gladys Mae Galloway of Clio, South Carolina; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Blackwell Pettigrew Martin of Marion, South Carolina; his son and only child, Robert Sanders Pettigrew, Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Charline Inez Pettigrew, David Allan Pettigrew, Linda Sue Pettigrew, Babette Louise Pettigrew, and William Brantley Pettigrew, all of Sumter, South Carolina.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Smith Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Marion, South Carolina and will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Batson.
Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, South Carolina.
