Susannah Davis was born in Cardiganshire, Wales in 1800.

On March 25, 1825 Susannah married to John Jones at Christchurch St. Leonard's, Foster Lane, London. The family apparently moved soon after to the southeast portion of London. Their first son, John W Jones, was born on March 21, 1826 in London, England and was baptized on April 9, 1826, at St. John, Horselydown in southeast London. Mary was born on June 5, 1829 and was baptized on June 28, 1829 at St. John‘s, too. No more is known about her. William was born (date unknown) and baptized on November 9, 1834 at St. Mary in Rotherhithe in southeast London.

Based on the early birth records of the Jones children, in 1826 & 1829 the elder John Jones was working as a "labourer". By the time his third child was born in 1834, John had advanced to "cow keeper".

Susannah immigrated to America with her sons John W and William in the 1850's. It is unknown what happened to Susannah's husband John.Susannah lived with her son John W for all her life, moving with him to his Portland home. The photograph above of Susannah Jones was taken in Cleveland, Ohio. Susannah Jones was described as "a little Welsh grandmother who always wore a little white cap"
When Susannah died on Feb 5, 1894, her well attended funeral was held at the Portland home of her son.

The entries in John W Jones' 1894 diary read:

"2/5 Mother died this morning. Bought lot in Bangor cemetery.

2/6 Rev. Davies and hearse came up here. William (son of Susannah) and Mary Anne (William's wife) also. All Overnight.

2/7 There were 33 teams altogether in Bangor for funeral

2/17 William came up here and made settlement in regard to Mother's property. Paid him his share."
