HASTINGS - Lockwood "John" Working, 54 of 421 E. Bond St. died Wednesday in Pennock Hospital, where he had been a patient two weeks. He had been ill several months.
Born in Culver, Ind., he moved to Holland as a child. He was a 1936 graduate of Holland High School and was an employee of the Michigan Bell Telephone Co.
He moved to Hastings in 1941. An employee of Michigan Bell for more than 35 years he had been a supervisor for more than 20 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Hastings First Presbyterian Church and past member of its board of deacons.
He is survived by his widow, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Sears; sons, Steven Working of Wayland and Dale Working of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren; his parents, Mr. Mrs. Earl Working of Holland; bothers, Frank Working of Grand Rapids and Howard and Eugene Working, both of Holland; and sisters, Mrs. Martin (Marian) Bushouse of Vicksburg and Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Miles of Holland.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hastings First Presbyterian Church. The Leonard-Osggod Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
