"FUNERAL OF THE LATE WILLIAM L. SCHAFFER YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

The funeral of Mr. William L. Schaffer, vice president of the Girard National Bank, took place yesterday afternoon from his late residence, No. 1213 Arch street. The remains were laid out in the back parlor, in a handsome clack cloth casket, with oxydized handles, and were viewed by a very large number of persons. A handsome floral design, consisting of a wheat field and sickel, with a border of flowers, was a tribute fro the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, of which Mr. Schaffer was president.

In the center of the design, in immortelles were the letters P. H. S. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. J. A. Seiss, pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion. Among those who came to pay their tribute of love and respect to the deceased were the following: Messrs. J. E. Mitchell, A. W. Harrison and Thomas Evans, of the Horticultural Society: Thomas Mechan, C. D. Norton, John Heyl, J. M. Whiteman, John Reeves, Lafayette Baker and Isaac Price. The pall-bearers were Messrs. D. B. Cummins, Seth Caldwell, Jr., William P. Jenks and William Gillespie. The remains were interred in Laurel Hill Cemetery."
