George enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 25 February 1862 at Tippah County, Mississippi. He was mustered as a Private in Company A, 34th Mississippi Infantry. He was captured on 3 August 1864 near Atlanta, Georgia and received at Camp Chase Prison in Columbus, Ohio on 14 August 1864. He died of chronic diarrhea on 19 December 1864.
