MRS. LAURA ABERNATHY
Mrs. Laura Abernathy, 49 years old, 414 North 14 Street, Van Buren, died Wednesday, March 9 afer a sudden illness. A lifelong resident of Van Buren, she was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist church and Young Matrons Club. She was president of the Junior Choir of the Church.
She was the mother of Leonard Abernathy one of the two colored boys on the state champion junior high basketball team whose picture appeared in the Press Argus Last week.
Survivors are eight sons, four daughters, her parents, two sisters, two brothers, and five Grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Pilgrim Rest church with the pastor. R. M. Jordan officiating. Burial was at Crown Hill Cemetery was directed by Rowell Funeral Home.
