Tivis was born April 10, 1931 to the late Elihu Armes and Virgie Honaker in Tazewell County, Virginia. Mr. Armes retired from the U.S Army as a Master Sgt. after 31 years of dedicated service.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Louise (Jeane) of Leesville, LA; Son, David Armes; Step Son, Quinn Marshall; Daughter, Lynn Armes; Step daughters, Paula Monk and Lanette Willis; Grandchildren: Thomas Marshall, Allen Turner and Scarlett Monk; Great Grandchildren: Blake Turner and Chelsea Turner; Sisters: Mabel Boyd of Fork Ridge, VA, Dorothy Hylton and husband Andrew of Chicago, IL, Betty Deel and husband Marcus of Pounding Mill, VA, Wanda Richardson and husband Donald of Pine Creek, VA, and Alice Minnie Armes of Clayppol Hill, VA; Brothers: Ralph Armes and wife Kay of Pounding Mill, VA, Curtis Armes and wife June of Raven, VA and Tommy Armes and wife Gaynell of Cedar Bluff.

Tivis was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Darris Raymond Armes, Junior Armes and Dallas Armes.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tammy Marshall and Thomas Marshall for all their dedication to Tivis and Louise.
