U.S. Congressman. Graduating from the University of California at Berkeley in 1935, he was an accounting and finance, assistant manager of South-Western Publishing Company of San Francisco, (1936-41). During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel director of training, Army Finance School, (1943-44), Chief of Foreign Fiscal Affairs Branch, Office of Fiscal Director, War Department, in 1945 and executive officer, Office of Fiscal Director, Mediterranean Theater, in 1946. After the war, he graduated from the University of California Boalt Hall School of Law, in 1949, he was admitted to the bar in 1950 and commenced the practice of law in Martinez, California. In 1955, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-fourth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 50.
