Printer, Publisher, and Librarian of Congress. Appointed in 1829 by President Andrew Jackson to be the fourth Librarian of Congress, he served for the next 32 years until he was replaced by President Abraham Lincoln with a political supporter, John G. Stephenson, in 1861.
