Lloyd Dennis (1934 - 2011)

Lloyd Dennis, 76, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at his home. Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment: Boonsville Cemetery in Boonsville. Pallbearers will be Lloyd's three grandsons, two sons-in-law and two daughters. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, we believe Lloyd would want you to follow his philosophy of life, and invest your money in things that have a longer lifespan and better return than flowers, or donations to Hospice Austin, which provided great care and comfort to Lloyd and his family.

Lloyd was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Spur, the second of three children of Irene Garner Dennis and Noah I. Dennis. Lloyd attended Azle High School, a four-year letterman, where he met Billie Jo Slate, his wife of 56 years. Lloyd worked at Convair in Fort Worth, for six years before beginning his career in the insurance business. He began work for Life and Casualty Insurance Co. in 1960 in Fort Worth and retired from that company, now American General, in 1996, where he attained the position of regional vice president. He and Billie traveled the world throughout their lives. Most trips were shared with family and friends. Lloyd, always an avid hunter and fisherman, spent much time in the mountains of Colorado, and all over the lakes, rivers and coast of Texas. While slowed by illness in the last few years, he fished until it was physically impossible. He was a member of the South Austin Bass Club. Lloyd was preceded in death by the love of his life, Billie Jo Slate Dennis, in 2007.

Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Mike Shanahan of Austin, and Penny and Joe Holmes of College Station; grandsons, Dean Lowry and wife, Leslie, Chase Lowry and wife, Melissa, Trevor Holmes and fiancee, Lindsey Myers, all of Austin; four great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Dodson; brother, Ronny Dennis and wife, June; sister-in-law, Peggy Hopkins and husband, Hoppy; brother-in-law, Eddie Salz and wife, Kim; and countless relatives and dear friends.
