Joshua Smith who lived near Warfieldsburg Carroll County Maryland (on the farm now known as, and owned by Joshua Sellman), was born in Baltimore County six or eight miles west of Baltimore City_ and lived there until 18 or twenty years of age.
His Father John Smith was an Englishman and came from England. After arriving in America he married Mary Stevenson, daughter of Richard King Stevenson. by whom he had three sons_ viz= Richard, John and Joshua. After the death of John Smith_ his widow Mary Smith with the above named three sons moved to Frederick County (now Carroll Co.) on the farm now owned and occupied by Joseph A. Stouffer near Wakefield. Richard died a bachelor, his Bro. John married and lived near Warfieldsburg. Joshua married Susanna Wells, daughter of Joseph Wells who resided near Westminster, (Spring Mills) and owned a large tract of land between that place and Warfieldsburg. Joshua and Susanna Smith had Six Children. Richard2, Thomas1, Joseph. Joshua John and Mary."
