Also know as King Pedro IV of Portugal. Born Pedro de Alcântara Francisco António João Carlos Xavier de Paula Miguel Rafael Joaquim José Gonzaga Pascoal Cipriano Serafim in Queluz Palace, son of King João VI of Portugal and Carlota Joaquina de Bourbon of Spain. Prince Pedro came to Brazil along with the Portuguese Royal Family, fleeding from Napoleonic forces. He was the founder and first ruler of Empire of Brazil, the only in the Americas. He was the emperor of Brazil between the Brazilian indenpendecy in 1822 and the abdication in favor of his son, Pedro II, in 1831. After this event he sailed for Britain where he began to organize a military expedition against his brother Miguel, to take over as Pedro IV of Portugal. It was his name until his death in 1834, of Tuberculosis, aged 35.
