Doctor; served as surgeon in the Civil War - 1st Regt. Vermont Cavalry.

George Spaulding Gale received a good academic education and commenced to study medicine in Orwell, VT in May 1834. He attended lectures at the Castleton Medical College and graduated at that institution in 1837. He commenced the practice of medicine in Franklin, VT and subsequently removed to Rouses Point, NY. Later, he settled in Bridport, VT from 1849 to 1862. After a rigid competitive examination he was commissioned by the governor, surgeon of the First Regiment of VT Cavalry in 1862 and served thru the war. At times he was detached from his regiment to act as brigade surgeon and as division surgeon. For a considerable time during the last part of the war, he was detailed to the Cavalry Corps. Hospital at city Point, where he was surgeon in chief. At the termination of the war he settled in New York City, where he practiced 6+ years. He removed to Brooklyn, NY where he died Mar. 22, 1877.
