Dolores Fife, age 96, passed away quietly on Sept. 10, 2003.

She was born in Mexico on Sept. 8, 1907, to Benjamin Cluff Jr., the 1st President of Brigham Young University and Harriet Cullimore Cluff. She was the second youngest of nine children. Her family moved to Provo, Utah, when she was one and she grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from the University of Utah in Education in 1926. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1928 and married Dr. Joseph B. Fife, and three months later their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake temple. Being a District President in the Texas/Louisiana Mission, the Fife's played local hosts to visiting apostles, Church Presidents, Mission Presidents, and Missionaries. Dolores was especially active in the Relief Society at all levels of calling. She was a Kindergarten teacher at Newman School from 1957 until her retirement in 1972 and she was loved and remembered by all her students for her warm and vibrant personality, constantly stimulating her students to do their best. She had a special talent in the field of oil painting and became a very established artist in New Orleans. She became a widow shortly after her retirement and moved back to Salt Lake City. She was a local personality, especially in the Cottonwood Mall area, and unofficial greeter to everyone, passing out York chocolate mints and becoming nicknamed "Grandma York." She was a source of happiness to all who met her. She especially enjoyed her little Chihuahua, "Pepper", who was her constant and devoted companion for over 15 years.

She is survived by her three children, Dr. Kingsley Fife (Joanne), of Los Angeles, CA; Mary Ellen Silver (Larry) of Salt Lake City; Utah and Major Scott Fife (Terri) of Boise, Idaho and her brother, Harvey Cluff of Salt Lake city. She has eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held in Salt Lake City on Saturday September 13, 2003 at 2:00p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive. Friends may visit one hour prior to services on Saturday.
