As per notes from McDonough County Genealogy Dept.: Richard Craig was born in Kentucky, Feb. 28, 1795; served as a private, with Captain Allen Hamilton's Co., Col Richard H. Johnson's regiment. Kentucky mounted volunteers, during the War of 1812; he received a government pension after his service.
Richard Craig appears as #432 on the 1840 McDonough County tax list; he owned 174 acres in section 34, New Salem Twp. and 160 acres in Industry Twp., (section 1); his residence was on the SW ¼ of secton 34, New Salem Twp.; he also owned $275.00 worth of horses, $245.00 cattle, $10.00 clocks and watches $75.00 wagons, and $473.00 in other property; his total taxes were $14.00.
(Death notice, in part, from the Macomb Journal), Thurs. Jan. 28, 1886); "Richard Craig, an old settler of McDonough County, died at his home in Industry on Monday aged about 90 years. He had lived in this county for 40 years or more."
Richard Craig md. Harriett McAllary in this County on Nov. 10, 1840.

Richard was first married to Mary R. Wright on October 21, 1817. They had a daughter, Lucy Ann 1819-1881. Mary died in 1822 in Todd County, Kentucky.
