He spent his younger years working as a shingle sawyer. In 1881, Alfred, along with brothers John, Frederick and Joseph moved to Manistee, Michigan, where they worked at the R.G. Peter's the shingle mill. The brothers later owned and operated Touchette Brothers General Merchandise in Eastlake, Manistee, Michigan.
On 2 January, 1884, Alfred married Anna Victoria Wilson, daughter of Joseph Wilson and Ann Hooper, at East Lake, Michigan. Alfred and Anna were the parents of two daughters, Anna Onesime and Clara Iona, and a son Alfred John Louis.
The family moved to Barrie, Simcoe, Ontario in the early 1900's, and in 1908 moved to Fort Williams. There Alfred worked as a retail merchant, owing a business on Frederica St.
After he retired, he and Anna moved to Sioux Lookout to live with their daughter Clara and her husband Robert Shields.
Alfred died 20 February, 1927 at Sioux Lookout, leaving behind his wive Anna and daughters Anna and Clara.

"ALFRED V TOUCHETTE
The death occurred in Sioux Lookout on February 20, of A.V. Touchette, for many years a retail merchant conducting a business on Frederica street in west Fort William. He was 69 years of age.
The late Mr. Touchette resided in Fort William for 19 years and for many years was active in business in the west end of the city. Following his retirement he moved from the city to live with his daughter in Sioux Lookout about one year ago.
Surviving him besides his bereaved widow are two daughters, Mrs. E.W. Rydholm, 219 east Amelia street, and Mrs. R.A. Shields, Sioux Lookout, with whom the late Mr. Touchette had made his home during the past year---.
