Robert Vestal Seeds, 89, died June 25, 2011 at his home in Los Angeles, California.

Bob was born to Edward and Mildred Seeds on January 27, 1922 at Fort H.G. Wright, Fisher's Island, New York. Bob described himself as an Army Brat, growing up on military bases throughout the US and Philippines. Following his parents' divorce in 1936, Bob, his mother, and younger sister, Joanne, settled in Pasadena, California.

Boy Scouts/Explorers and ROTC were major influences in Bob's life throughout his junior and senior high school days at Marshall Middle School and Pasadena Junior College.

In 1942, he enlisted in the army to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. A previously unknown eye condition ended that dream. Bob served until 1946, including combat during the Battle of Okinawa in the Pacific Theater (749th Field Artillery Battalion).

Bob resumed his education at USC after being discharged with multiple medals, graduating in 1951. He married his wife, Harice, in 1957, thrilled to become father to her three young children. A year and a half later, the couple added their fourth child to the family. In 1961, they moved from Eagle Rock to Glendale, California.

Bob had a long and distinguished career in personnel management working for the cities of Glendale, Burbank, and Santa Monica, as well as the nine-campus Los Angeles Community College and Santa Monica School Districts. He was an avid equal rights advocate having tremendous impatience with unequal treatment of apparent equals.

Bob was an active member of Temple Sinai in Glendale and
Beth Shir Shalom following the family's relocation to Santa Monica in 1968. In addition to years of service on the Temple board in a variety of capacities, Bob oversaw the physical operations of the High Holy Day services at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium - a major undertaking.

Bob's passions highlighted family, photography, travel, theater, music, and anthropology. He was a voracious reader and researcher. He and Harice traveled extensively, visiting all continents, save Africa. Harice passed away in 2008, shortly after the couple celebrated their fiftieth anniversary. Bob's last years were brightened by his loving relationship with Lucy Horwitz.

Bob is survived by his children: David (Hillary) Neumeister, Laurel Rosen, Paul Neumeister, and Judith (Gary) Seeds Miller, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, as well as Lucy Horwitz. He is greatly missed by all.

Bob was laid to rest on June 28, 2011 at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City.
