For a time, Caroline's health was failing. After June 23, 1967, she was a patient at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota where she later died. Caroline was survived by four sons, three daughters, three brothers, one sister, twenty-three grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
