John Ayers Died at Hospital Thursday
John H. Ayers, a resident of Chouteau county for the past 44 years, passed away at the St. Clare hospital in this city at 6 p.m. Thursday. He had been in poor health for the past four months, and was hospitalized at one time for about a month. He entered the hospital again about a week before his death.
John H. Ayers was born Jan. 2, 1895, in Kansas, the son of the late James H. and Josephine Ayers. The deceased spent his early life in Kansas and was united in marriage at Minneapolis, Kansas, on April 10, 1917, to Carrie Allison. Soon after their marriage they came to Chouteau county in 1917 and farmed in the Geraldine section. They have been residents of Fort Benton for a number of years and Mr. Ayers continued his farming operations from this city.
Mr. Ayers was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and his passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends, both in the Geraldine section and the Fort Benton area. He was a member of the Baptist church of this city, and took an active part in the work of his church.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Miss Ann Ayers, of Fort Benton; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Montague and Mrs. Jess Kibler, one brother, Ward Ayers, all of Minneapolis, Kansas; also a number of nieces and nephews. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the Benton Funeral Home chapel on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Bob Porterfield, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
