Fred C. Martinez Jr.

Funeral services for Fred C. Martinez Jr. have been set for Thursday, July 5, at 1 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the Cortez Cemetery.

Fred was born in Tuba City, Ariz., on March 15, 1985, the son of Fred C. Martinez Sr. and Pauline Cly. He died in Cortez on June 16, 2001. He was16.

Fred loved music and played the clarinet. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Native American Club in school. He also drew satisfaction from drawing and artwork.

Surviving Fred are his mother, Pauline Mitchell, of Cortez; his father, Fred Martinez Sr., of Farmington, N.M.; brothers, Jerold P. Mitchell, Jervis P. Mitchell, Merle G. (Cinthia) Daukei, Gene Daukei Jr., Sidney V. Martinez, all of Cortez, and Manuel Martinez of Acoma, N.M.; and his sister, Raferlita Martinez, of Farmington, N.M.

Fred is also survived by two paternal aunts, Virginia Henry and Rose Armstrong; one paternal uncle, Custer Martinez; three maternal uncles, Ben Stanley, Henry Stanley, and Dave Stanley; one maternal aunt, Bessie Cly; two nephews, Rashaan Mitchell and Tyler Smith; and two nieces, Tashine Martinez and Socamera Daukei.

Memorial contributions can be made with the Citizens State Bank of Cortez.
