George Vernon Cardwell, son of Arthur and Agnes Rasmussen Cardwell, was born on January 27, 1910, at rural Republic, and died on March 22, 2005, at the Republic County Long Term Care at the age of 95 years.
He received his education in the Republic Public Schools and graduated from Republic High School in 1928. He served with the U S Navy during WWII. He was united in Marriage to Vernice Denoyer on October 2, 1935, and to this union one son was born. He was a retired Civil Engineer and a register Land Surveyor.
He was a member of the Amana Lutheran Church of Scandia, and served on the Riverview and Lutheran Cemetery Board; Lebanon Masonic Lodge No 221 AF and AM of Scandia; Royal Arch Masons, ISIS Shrine Temple of Salina; past Commander and member of Albert Isaacson-James Larsen-Robert Sjolander American Legion Post # 193 of Scandia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice Greenslade; two brothers Charley Cardwell and Homer Cardwell.
He is survived by his wife; son, Steven R Cardwell of Lawrence; two grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.
Services were on March 26 at Amana Lutheran Church in Scandia , conducted by Pastor Shelby Bailey. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Scandia.
