Funk/Soul Musician. He was a guitarist and a founding member of the musical group, 'KC And The Sunshine Band.' The band also included lead singer Harry Wayne 'KC' Casey, bassist Richard Finch, drummer Robert Johnson, and percussionist Fermin Goytisolo. The group was originally formed in 1973 in Miami, Florida, but the history began when Casey and Finch met in 1972 while both were employed at the TK Records in Miami, Florida, where among other things, Casey served as a personal secretary and booking agent for artist Timmy Thomas. There first release was the single, "Blow Your Whistle" but it wasn't a big success and quickly sunk from release. They had a big hit when there version of "Rock Your Baby" which was recorded and released by George McCrae in 1974, while the band was working on other projects. They recorded on the record labels, TK, Rhino, Collectables, Rhino Flashback, ZYX, Madacy, and Import. The bands many other recordings include, "Keep It Comin' Love" "Get Down Tonight" That's The Way I Like It" "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Baby" "I'm Your Boogie Man" "Please Don't Go" "Hooked On Your Love" "I've Got The Feeling" "Ooh I Like It" "I Betcha Don't Know That" "Que Pasa" "Sound Your Funky Horn" "Baby I Want Your Love" "Queen Of Clubs" "I Need A Little Lovin" "I'm A Pushover" "All My Love" "Do It Good" "Do You Wanna Go Party" and "Boogie Shoes" for the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack in 1977. Smith left the band in 1979 due to his problems with substance abuse and continued to work at odd jobs until 2000 when he was thinking about re-joining the band. But on August 4 of that year Smith was crushed to death while working as a construction worker in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 47 years old.
